Steamboat “American Queen” Hits the Mississippi, Prepping for Debut by Matt Hannafin Late last week, new cruise line Great American Steamboat Company took its one and only ship, the 436-passenger American Queen, out for “sea” trials (river trials?) on the Mississippi, its once and future home. American Queen reportedly cruised beside New Orleans’s French Quarter for three hours before conducting berthing trials in front of famous beignet palace Café Du Monde. According to the line, “For the first time in almost five years, the paddle wheel achieved 17 revolutions per minute with plenty of steam in reserve.” “The new propulsion and control system operated perfectly during last night’s trial,” said GASC’s executive VP of vessel operations, Greg Brown, in a media statement. “There was a significant reduction in vibration and noise thanks to the newly added technology.” www.frommers.com/community/blogs/blog.cfm/cruise-blog/steamboat-american-queen-hits-mississippi-prepping-debutTRAVEL RESERVATIONS LIVE TELEPHONE SUPPORT 24/7 US and Canada: 1-800-780-5733 EU: 00-800-11-20-11-40 phoneid 47909 www.1t23.com
